My name is Greg Ford. I been affiliated with Consumers Info USA since 2001. Their ultimate goal is to provide people with information they need that helps them resolved a problem, achieve a goal, benefits their lives in some way, etc.

I started in the real estate division. I was a real estate agent for many years with Century-21 and got involved with Consumers Info USA in creating ebook guides that showed people how to buy their first home, how to sell your home, how to fix your credit so you can get approved for a home loan, etc. It expanded from there.

The reason why this website was created is due to my own personal experience with Chexsystems.

About 10 years ago I had a 1 bedroom condo and got into some dispute with the owner’s association. As often is the case, I can’t even remember what it was about now, but I stopped paying the monthly dues. This went on for about 8 months and then one day my ATM card didn’t work… it gave me a message to “see your bank.” It was Suntrust and when I spoke to them they said my condo association got a court order to levy the account.

For those who may not know… a bank levy means the account is frozen and the bank is ordered to send your money to the court by whatever date is on the order. It is suppose to only be for the amount that’s on the court order. Or, if you don’t have that amount in your account then the bank sends what ever is there. Well… the judgment was for approximately $700. I only had about $400 in the account. Somebody at Suntrust screwed up and sent the courts the $700. Then a couple of weeks later sent me a notice saying I was overdrawn! So, I’m sure you can imagine what my response was. The account was completely frozen… I could not even use the card to do a balance inquiry. So obviously I couldn’t have done it. They either accept their mistake, or find the employee that actually did it and have them repay. I already had another account at Wachovia and I wasn’t feeling all that great about Suntrust anyway, so it was very easy to ignore them.

About 3 years later, I wanted to get business account. Another bank had a better deal than Wachovia so I went to apply. I never had any problems opening an account before and didn’t even think about it one way, or the other. But I’m sitting at the desk, the lady’s talking on the phone and it does sound like some kind of credit check. I’m thinking they’re running a credit check just to open up a bank account? Then I hear her say the name Suntrust.

I honestly had forgotten all about them! So the lady hangs up the phone and just says “Can’t do it… Suntrust says you owe them money and reported you to Chexsystems”

It was absolutely amazing how her whole entire attitude completely changed after she hung up that phone. She just said you need to contact Chexystems. A security guard was there and they practically threw me out! To be fair, it was right at closing time and I was next to the last customer. But they were definitely ready for me to get out of their bank.

So, I’m sure you know the rest. I went home, got on the computer and immediately started searching for information about Chexsystems. At that time I thought it was Checks Systems. This was about 2001 and there was a whole lot less information about them on the internet then there is now. I was already associated with Consumers Info USA as far as their real estate dept.
